Hi everyone and welcome to my Blog... it has been a long time coming, (2 years and 4 month to be exact). My name is Patrick Lawson and I picked up the award for Outstanding Customer Service at a prestigious event attended by the top people at transport for London and various independent transport companies, directors and managers, The award was presented to me by the deputy Mayor at City Hall in July 2018.
Around January 2019 I was interviewed by Islington and Hackney Gazette because they came across my story on a charity website called SHP single homeless project, this organisation assists vulnerable adults to get trained, take courses, and gain the confidence to be employed. My story was from street homeless to meaningful employment with a social enterprise who run community transport and have quite a few red bus contracts with transport for London. At the time the various newspapers got hold of my story I had received 45 commendations from my customers on my route for being polite, cheerful, considerate to customers and other road users, greeting every customer with a hearty good morning and waving at them and saying have a good day, keeping customers on my bus informed of delays, road closures, diversions and giving the customers alternative routes in order to keep them happy and keep London moving. All with a big smile!!
My journey from homeless to happy was not all a bed of roses, I had found myself addicted to drugs,I've spent time behind bars, I've been street homeless, I've suffered from depression, long term unemployed, and eventually selling the Big Issue for 5 years.
I have been dubbed London's Happiest Bus Driver by the public. My story of turning my life around from being street homeless, addicted and depressed to having the courage to approach various organisations about the problems I was facing was very difficult. However I learnt how to do it and this Blog has been born from my experiences in my life, from the physical and mental abuse I faced from my family members, the helplessness. Being trapped in the belief that I was the problem. Never being allowed to grow up, My reason for starting this blog is to give back, to help someone going through what I have been through. To help someone avoid the pitfalls I have been through. To offer advice, guidance, mentor-ship. Maybe help to stop another person going through what I've been through.
